(New) Prison Programming
Journey Together Service Dog
3500
The Women’s Fund’s grant gift of $3,500 goes to Journey Together Service Dog, which will fund a new program for women at Taycheedah Correctional Institute, teaching select inmates communication, job, social and leadership skills. Such programming helps boost personal self-esteem and provides an avenue to break the cycle of crime. Journey Together is currently bringing service dog trainees into Taycheedah for day-long therapy visits. This proposal would expand to overnight full training of the dogs as PTSD service dogs to later be placed with adult community members, most of whom are either veterans or crime victim survivors. The program aligns with our Fond du Lac Says No More initiative. It meets criteria for two funding priorities: Leadership Development and Safety, Dignity and Freedom from Violence.
