Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund awards 2016 grants

Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund, promoting positive change for Fond du Lac area women & girls has awarded its 2016 grants.

Marian University received $7,000 to support a new financial literacy component of its Working Families Program, which serves low-income, working single parents pursuing higher education.

Solutions Center’s “Empowering Women and Girls of Fond du Lac: Life after Abuse and Trauma” was awarded $6,400. This collaborative effort with Agnesian Domestic Violence Services provides emergency financial assistance for women fleeing domestic abuse. Additionally, the grant funds a support group, incorporating equine therapy at Mahala’s Hope, helping victims heal.

Girls on the Run, a Fond du Lac School District program weaving training for a 5K run with a 12-week curriculum to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles, received a $3,170 grant support expansion to all middle schools and elementary schools outside the District.

$3,000 grants went to Moraine Park Technical College, for its Student Emergency Fund for Fond du Lac County women at risk of dropping out of college due to unforeseen financial emergencies, and to Habitat for Humanity to support Women Homeowner’s Education, a new program teaching women to be successful homeowners.

Badgerland Youth for Christ received $2,800 for “Parent Life”, equipping teen parents to become responsible, successful adults, including completing their educations. $2,640 went to Pillar & Vine. Supporting “Promoting Health Decisions and Creating Empowering Stories”, a new program for children in foster care.

Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac received $2,000 for “SMART Girls” for girls aged 11-16. It develops positive values and character traits needed to become responsible women.
