Ruth L. Michels was honored with the 2006 Woman of Achievement Award by the Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund for her outstanding business accomplishments and deep commitment to philanthropy.
In 1959, Ruth and her late husband, Dale Michels, co-founded Michels Pipeline, which has grown into one of North America’s largest and most diverse utility contractors, with 6,000 employees and 14 divisions operating across the U.S. and Canada. Their visionary leadership has had a profound impact on the industry.
Beyond her success in business, Ruth was a passionate philanthropist. She oversaw the Dale & Ruth Michels Family Foundation, which has donated millions to education, healthcare, and community organizations. Notable contributions include Dale and Ruth Michels Hall at St. Norbert College, the Dale Michels Atrium at Marian University, and the Dale Michels Center for Heart Care at St. Agnes Hospital.
Ruth also played an active role in the community, serving on the board of directors of American Bank and the Agnesian Hospice Charity Open Committee, among other initiatives. Ruth’s legacy of generosity, leadership, and service continues to inspire and benefit many, leaving a lasting imprint on the Fond du Lac community and beyond.
