According to a report released in January 2022 by the Wisconsin Policy Forum, more female lawmakers are serving in the Wisconsin state Legislature than ever before (31% of legislative seats as of 2021).
And although that number is on par with the majority of states nationwide, it’s far from equal representation. It also marks a shift in a trend in Wisconsin from the 1980s to the early 2000s when our state outpaced most other states in the number of women lawmakers. See report here: https://wispolicyforum.org/…/more-women-elected-but…/
This disparity is especially important for the upcoming midterm elections, when all seats in the State Assembly and half the State Senate seats (odd-numbered districts) are up for election. It’s an opportunity to change the landscape for women in office at the state level.
